Bright ruby. Black raspberry, cherry and licorice on the nose, plus a strong note of garrigue densely packed and sweet on entry, then juicy and focused in the mid-palate, with lush dark fruit liqueur and herb flavors firmed by a mineral spine. This solid wine gains flesh and volume with air and finishes with silky tannins and good cling. Reminds me a bit of a 2005 in its structure.
90-92 points IWC

A vertical of French Bordeaux wines from Chateau Richelieu: Fronsac 2003, Fronsac 2004, and Trois Musketeers. The 2004 is drinking beautifully with a lovely comparison of the older 2003 following up nicely. The Trois Musketeers delivers a fine structure and long finish for easy libating.

We couldn’t resist pairing the Greek 9 Muses Red and White. Ancient history and holiday colors all in one gift. Arriving in our custom gray packaging it’s just - sweet!

The Jeff Runquist Winery in Amador County, CA always delivers wine with an attitude, and packaging to match. These wines are big and bold. Sullivan Vineyards produces wines from their vineyards in the Napa Valley’s Rutherford appellation. Their estate grown 2008 Merlot is made in the French tradition of big Merlots that rival the big Cabs in flavor, intensity and age-ability. You will find seductive aromas of red cherry, currants and allspice.

Merlot has fallen a bit out of favor in America recently. Yet it continues to be the #1 grape planted in Bordeaux and is important in some of the world's most expensive wines. Bright red fruit, medium bodied mid-palate, but a structured finish, with a smooth mouthfeel and some lingering tannins.
Bright red fruit- cherry to boysenberry, splash of cranberry. Medium bodied mid-palate, but a stuctured finish, showing a hint of spicy, toasty oak along with some lingering tannins. This wine is generous and warm. Suited to several years of age if desired. For our 2008 vintage they blended in 8% Cabernet Sauvignon to give it a bit more backbone.

The 2007 Howell Mountain Merlot has aromas of bright raspberry, cassis and plum fruits with sage and hints of vanilla. As the wine opens green tea leaves and cedar start to emerge. The mouth feel is medium-full with smooth tannins that work well with the flavors of berries, sage and vanilla. This vintage has great balance and is approachable now with a little air and should age well for another 5 to 7 years.

Lots of everything in this wine, starting with brilliant, saturated, red-purple color and transitioning immediately to vanilla and spice from fruit and a nice oak complement. Structure is great (from the 33% whole cluster) with big, still tightly wound black cherry fruit and wood spice to balance. The weight is impressive, and the finish, despite still being tight, is long and refined. The wine is big, but balanced with excellent acid and moderate tannin.
Wine Spectator, December 31, 2010, Harvey Steiman: 90. A light grip of tannins makes this feel tight, but a lovely undercurrent of earth-inflected dark berry and espresso flavors keeps running through the finish. Best from 2012 through 2018.
Wine Advocate, October 2010, Jay Miller: 91. ...Adds more aromatic complexity to the mix. Medium ruby in color, it offers up a nose of sandalwood, tobacco, smoke, floral notes, black cherry, and black raspberry. Medium-bodied in the mouth, it displays outstanding volume, layers of spicy fruit, a sense of elegance, and a lengthy, seamless finish. It has the structure to evolve for 3-4 years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023. Under the direction of founder/winemaker Harry Peterson-Nedry, Chehalem has taken full advantage of the great 2008 vintage and produced its finest set of Pinot Noirs to date.

The 2008 Vintage Real McCoy Pinot Noir, with its red-purple color, is smooth and lively on the palate offering aromas of ripe red plum, blueberries, strawberries and cherries. A certain earthy and spicy component complement the fruit character and overlay the gentle smooth tannins, leading to a lingering finish and aftertaste. The wine is refreshing and balanced in acidity with nuance resulting from its lengthy time in 228 L. French Oak Barrels. Enjoy with your favorite creamy brie or fresh goat cheese, lamb or pork chops, sushi, fruit compote, chocolate covered strawberries or brownies.

This is a new wine and label from Tony Leonardini, the volunteer fireman from St. Helena and winemaker who has also produced the labels "Volunteer" and "Two- Faced". Red fruits, such as strawberry, cranberry, and pomegranate shine on both the nose and the first sip. Multilayered, complex, and very well-balanced, this Pinot Noir has all the right components that will make your summer alfresco dinner shine.

The wine is generous on the palate with nice forward fruit and well-balanced oak — in a word, elegant. This handcrafted Pinot Noir is an elegant composition of sustainably farmed grapes from several of California's cool, marine influenced micro-climates. Ripe red berry and black cherry fruit balance its delicate spiciness.

Brilliant medium garnet color. This wine shows bright, assertive aromas of plum and black cherry with solid Pinot Noir character. Notes of violets, anise, and allspice are as harmonious in the wine’s flavor profile as its light overlay of fine French oak.

The 2009 vintage has a deep purple color accompanied by youthful almost florescent hues. One sniff identifies this wine as a ‘New World’ Syrah. The aromas are clean and bright dominated by scents of juicy boysenberry and ripe black raspberry. The earthy terroir driven flavors, common in ‘Old World’ Syrah, are relegated to the back seat as there is just a hint of flint and mineral in the background. The bouquet features a unique smoky scent that comes from barrels toasted over a hickory flame. On the palate, bright succulent flavors of red and black fruits mingle with those of hazelnut and chocolate. The texture of the 2009 vintage is not as thick as previous vintages, but the tannins remain soft, smooth and well integrated.

Enticing, opulent flavors of ripe blueberry and black cherry are accented by hints of sweet vanilla oak and white pepper. A true ‘rhone-style’ syrah that will gracefully age over the next several years.

A delicate and balanced Syrah with scents of coffee, casis, cherries and hints of spice, licorice, oak, and dusty minerality. Sylvester Syrah goes well with rich flavorful foods such as Arugula with shaved parmesan cheese, seared filte mignon, grilled Atlantic sea bass, fresh blackberry cobbler and chocolate mousse.

Armador, California. The Block 1 Vineyard Zinfandel produces wines of intense earthiness and spice. Flavors are dominated by bright cherry with clean acidity making this a very food-friendly Zin. Warm American oak aromas combine with leather, clove, vanilla, and nutmeg. This wine will age gracefully for many years, developing increasing fruitiness to match the smoky spices and minerality from the steep north-facing vineyard.
A small percentage of Primativo from the lower section of the vineyard intensifies the cherry flavor. If you like wines that reflect their unique terroir with balanced acids and fruit, you will appreciate this one.
It makes a great accompaniment to barbecue, roasted chicken and pork dishes as well as tomato-based pasta sauces.

92% Zinfandel 8% Petite Sirah. The 2009 wine has a purple-carmine color of medium depth. The hues are youthful and bright. The aroma delivers classic Zinfandel fruit of red raspberry, black currant, and plums with an added note of flint and mineral. The bouquet may be a bit more subtle that in the past with notes of hazelnut, vanilla, and mocha. The flavors are of ripe succulent red fruits with a creamy toasty oak overlay. The velvety finish comes from a complex blend of fruit and oak tannins that brings to mind the word; voluptuous.

This is a fairly typical jammy, reasonably priced zinfandel. The nose has a powerful cedar aroma, plus some blackberry jam, tar, a hint of black pepper and some alcohol heat. The palate is abundantly jammy. It’s like a really good boysenberry jam. There’s also some pepper on the palate. The tannins are decent, the acid level is good and the finish is medium long and slightly peppery.

Smooth and supple with deep color and intensity of flavors, this wine is truly a perfect introduction to the Jeff

The 2008 wine retains the intensity of color one expects from Petite Sirah; in fact the pigments almost stain the inside of the glass. The aromas of this year’s wine are of cassis and dense ripe concentrated blue fruits with notes of black pepper. The bouquet features smoky dark chocolate. Big creamy flavors of boysenberry and blackberries are balanced by creamy French oak. There is enough acid to keep the fruit flavors bright and succulent. The wine lives up to its name – a buttery, nutty Chardonnay that reflects its Napa Valley vineyards heritage. The 2010 Butternut combines grapes from a vineyard in Carneros, a Napa area punctuated by a colder climate and continual, cool bay breezes. The second vineyard is located just west of Napa in a small, secluded microclimate that is a little warmer with less bay-breeze influence. The combination of these two vineyards results in a complex chardonnay with a variety of round fruit fl avors.
Complex with lush fruit fl avors of pear and apple, vanilla, and you guessed it, butter and nut.
Butternut Chardonnay pairs well with Asian dishes, grilled fish and pork sausages.

2010 Paso Robles Chardonnay is rich and fruity with ripe apple and pear nuances. Soft vanilla and toasty oak linger on the mid-pallet. Nice body and soft acidity make this perfect for sipping by the glass or with a variety of cuisine.

This is a crisp, clean representation of pure cold climate Chardonnay grapes. The nose reminds us of jasmine flowers right after a rainstorm. On the palate we get honeysuckle, papaya, and Meyer lemons. The wine is rich - you may detect some butter, but believe us, those flavors are just from the pure Chardonnay fruit characteristics.

Lovely white fruits, flowers, and spice, locked in a lushly rich Chardonnay, this INOX continues the long-lived, perfectly balanced food wine we’ve made now for seven vintages. There is jasmine, pear, mineral oil, kiwi, lime, vanilla, pineapple, fruit candies, and stone, suspended by a tension of ginger, minerality, and acid. The wine is both brightly acid-driven and richly emollient, finishing dry and bracing.

Willamette Valley, Oregon. This dry riesling is produced in very limited quantities from selected lots from their Corral Creek and Stoller Vineyards. Their intent is to reflect ripe fruit that is highly focused with pinpoint acidity. This is a serious Riesling, not a quaffer, a big wine with brilliant, rich fruit, bright acid and a weighty palate. The acidity provides ageability and great structure, making it perfect with food and cleansing on the palate. It continues the viscous, intense, Alsatian-styled wines that their Pinot Gris Reserve starts; it is harvested late (almost always in November) with full ripeness and a touch of botrytis, giving the most intense dry Riesling they can make.

Subtle hints of green apple and cinnamon reminiscent of apple pie, with aromas of grapefruit and honeysuckle with an underlying grassiness. Flavors of Meyer lemon and minerality balanced with a palate softened by partial aging in oak barrels.

This blend is composed of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. The floral aromatics of Roussanne are reminiscent of pear and honey, while the Grenache Blanc adds a crisp acidity blended with the undeniable mouth filling richness and tropical fruit flavors of Viognier. The Côtes-du-Rôbles Blanc is the perfect complement to shellfish sautéed in a butter garlic sauce or simply enjoy as a refreshing glass by itself.

The stereotypical cool-climate Pinot Gris, focused on fruit, flowers, acid, and perfect balance. The wine is platinum, rich in texture and bright in nature, with aromas and flavors covering a complex spectrum of white and yellow fruits and flowers and spice. Look for mineral, ginger, grapefruit, orange peel, sea spray, and exotic fruits like papaya, banana, satsumas, honeydew melon—even lemon meringue pie and spiced pears. A lush fruit sweetness and great acid balance make the wine full and long on the palate, finishing dry and clean.

Firm, tense and dryly tannic, this is a solid wine, foursquare, its edges a little rough at present. The berry fruits are black, spicy from wood, creating a rich feel. In the end, black currant acidity and freshness finish the wine with a lift.

Classic and correct Macon Chardonnay at a value. Though there is no oak, the wine has full aromas of toast, apple and the subtle oxidation that occurs with oak. The palate presents ripe, Golden Delicious apples, mineral and spice with excellent structure and a long finish. Medium body.

This is a mineral wine with a great expression of fruit. Very fresh and still a touch leese, showing peach and melon notes. Has depth and balance, with citrus twinge on the finish.

The palate shows good focus and general zinginess. There's also a reasonable degree of mealy, lees-type influence in the flavour profile that provides a nice counterpoint to tight, bright fruit character. On entry, very refreshing and bright, with ultra-fine acid firming the wine's line. Reasonable intensity, though not mouth-shattering either. A lovely mineral lift through the after palate seems to linger for an unreasonably long time, generating both satisfaction and the desire for another glass. Very dry, very fine finish.

Their top cuvee, from the oldest vines and the very best parcels of the estate, is the 2007 Vacqueyras Les Genestes, which is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, all aged in tank. Fuller-bodied, deeper, with more substance and dimension to its flavors, and considerably longer, this is an impressively endowed, full-bodied Vacqueyras with loads of licorice, roasted herbs, smoked meats, and plenty of black cherry and blackberry fruit. It is a super Vacqueyras to drink over the next 6-7 years.

A beautiful, bright ruby red-colored wine. It’s made up of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah and comes across as well balanced and fruity, with emerging flavors of black currants, plums, spices and even chocolate. All of the flavors comingle and lead up to a finish of pepper and anise so complex, it requires a few more words. “Rich,” “full-bodied” and “lingering” come to mind, though you could be seasonal and call it “generous.”

40% Grenache, 40% Carignan and 20% Syrah, certified organic. This wine, made from older vines and aged in concrete tanks for 8 months, features a purple red color, the nose offers up expressive aromas of very ripe black fruits (cherry and black currants) and soft spices with mineral notes (licorice). The mouth is generous and fresh, with a soft tannic structure and aromatic persitency (ripe fruits and licorice). A beautiful, concentrated and fruity 'terroir' wine.

Bright ruby-red. Spicy raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of spice cake and rose. Juicy and precise in the mouth, offering silky red berry flavors and a hint of bitter cherry pit. Gains sweetness with air and finishes with very good clarity and floral-dominated persistence. I suspect this wine will drink well young.

Beautiful deep plum / purple color. The color alone sets this example apart from most others sampled recently from this appellation. Deeply fruited aromatics, too, are singular for this example and include richly scented nuances of red raspberries, ripe plums and that classic nuance of a Provencal Village. These aromas of spice and ripe red and blue fruits, with hints of black olive, are classic southern French. Soft, supple and deeply fruited flavors on the palate combine that plummy nuance from the aromas with silky tannins to coat the palate with blue fruits and zero hard edges. A beautiful example of a classic southern French "house wine" that will showcase your roasted chicken or leg of lamb with herbs to a "T".

In the world of grower Champagne, Vilmart & Cie. is one not to miss - and at just over 8,000 cases a year, that's an easy thing to do. But we've got some, folks, and to our own detriment (because, man, do we love this stuff and would prefer to hog lots and lots of what little there is all for our greedy little selves, were it allowed). But this is a generous time of year, no? Yes! So we'll share - because, really, you ought try it. It's got a gorgeous creamy, biscuity texture from up to 5 years mingling around on the lees, with fresh, vibrant notes of green apples, a little pineapple juice, jasmine, and stunning minerality.

Hardly a fussilade-o-sucrose here, but rather a delicate sweetness. You should sneak in a bottle next time you go for dim-sum. I will! You feel flowers spring up on your palate. Lots of canteloupe, and paradoxically it seems even more refreshing than the dry N.V. I mean, the fizz is delicious. Foie terrines yes we all know, but I rather envision this for unagi, for pan-Asian preps involving mango and other exotic fruits, for salads with lots of fruit and salt, maybe cantelope and lardons — even slaw.

Rheingau / Rheinhessen, Germany. Pretty cherry aromas as always, and here the grassiness is an attractive nuance, a little key-lime to jab at the cherry-sweetness; acidity high but not freaky; a gentle mintiness into a good finish, with low notes of hay and straw.

Apple, grapefruit and nectarine flavors are etched into the racy structure in this Riesling. Though light, it's tight and slightly hard on the finish. Give it some time. Rated 89 - Wine Spectator.

There has never been a better example of the electric intensity and uncanny balance Leitz is able to achieve in this site between taut, invigorating acidity and a high level of residual sugar that comes off as barely sweet. The color is an intense straw yellow with copper hues. The aromas are that of golden delicious apples, honey and wild flowers. Additional time in the bottle before release lends harmonious structure and an elegant balance to this often simplified varietal. A perfect wine as an aperitif or to pair with soups, antipasti, light meat and fish dishes.

The peculiarities of Sauvignon, Tocai Friulano and Pinot Bianco shape the nature of this wine, where the aromatic union of these three grapes is the result of a scrupulous and diligent research. After a separate wine making and short aging in barrique barrels there is the assemblage that highlights the aromatics of Tocai, the crisp acidity of Pinot Bianco and the intensity and length of flavor from the Sauvignon grapes.

Sangiovese. Classy, elegant and refined, as just about every wine is that emerges from these immaculate cellars. This soft, forward and beautifully articulated Sangiovese is best enjoyed while the fruit remains fresh. Crushed flowers, berries and sweet baking spices leave a lasting impression on the finish. This shows even better if opened a few hours in advance.–Antonio Galloni, for the Wine Advocate
An excellent red, well suited to all courses, particularly soups, salami, cheese, first and second courses featuring red meat.

The Dolcetto d’Alba Serraboella is a wild, almost-exotic wine bursting with dark fruit, grilled herbs, scorched earth and licorice. This is a decidedly unusual and expressive wine loaded with character and personality. Ideally, it is best enjoyed at the table, where food should help balance out some of the wine’s wilder elements. Notes of tar and smoke on the finish, along with the wine’s intensity, recall the qualities of Aglianico. The wine comes together beautifully in the glass. This is a special Dolcetto of rare pedigree and class.
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2007 vintage)

The 2006 Il Colorino di Casanova is a rock-star wine, especially for the money. The wine was released after 4 years of total aging. This is an incredible, expressive Barolo with great elegance and a wonderful dark fruit note. 2006 was the first vintage produced with a mere 250 cases.
La Spinetta's 2006 Barolo Vigneto Garretti is a floral, inviting Barolo graced with crushed flowers, berries, spices, mint and licorice. This is a decidedly mid-weight, feminine style for La Spinetta. Floral tones reappear on the finish adding lift and freshness. Though medium in body today, there certainly seems to be the potential for this to put on some weight over the next few years.

Friuli, Pignolo 100% (Amarone Style). Its color is red-ruby, very intense. Its scent is characteristic and recalls blueberries, blackberries and cherries in syrup. 50% Aglianico, 50% Petit Verdot. The wine possesses very definite characters, such as an impressive intensity of perfumes, coupled with the “readiness” and harmonious roundness of its tannins, as well as the extreme length of its aftertastes. Its strong personality is mainly the result of a unique balance of the microclimate and terroir of the vineyards where the grapes are produced: the Aglianico on its “white” clay soil and the Petit Verdot the extremely calcareous and rocky soil of the former cuccagna. Spending 15-16 months in new mildly “toasted” French oak donates to L’Astore a distinctive touch of elegance and complexity without altering, but rather integrating the already rich qualities of its original ingredients.

Very unique! A refreshing, slightly sweet summer red wine that we like as an aperitif or with lighter desserts. Wine writer and sommelier, Chris Sawyer, suggested that his perfect match would be cheesecake with a raspberry coulis. Notice the sparkle in the wine and a little spritz on the tongue. Sweet, but the residual sugar is less than half of a late harvest wine.

Eberle Muscat Canelli reveals floral aromas of orange blossom and ripe melon integrated with hints of citrus and bursts of guava and nectarine, culminating in a finish laced with spice. Crisp and semi-sweet, this wine is a surprising delight to enjoy with every occasion and a diversity of fare from crème brulee to foie gras.
Review: Don't be put off by the fact that this refreshing white has a bit of residual sugar and is described by the winemaker as "semi-sweet." There is a place for it at the dinner table, or even as an aperitif on a warm summer day. Muscat made in the style of the Eberle Muscat Canelli is light and refreshing, well balanced, and a perfect foil for desserts that aren't too sweet, or those that are fruit-based. The flavors and aromas show hints of floral, citrus, ripe melons and spice. At my house we serve it with ricotta pound cake covered with raspberries, but also enjoy it on its own because of its balance and crisp, clean finish. 91 Points, Robert Whitley, Aug 23, 2011

Chateau de Saint Aubin dates back to 1296 and is situated in the heart of the best Armagnac district, Bas-Armagnac. Chateau de Saint Aubin “Reserve du Chateau” is produced from Ugni Blanc grapes exclusively grown in the Bas-Armagnac district. Nose : Classic house style with glorious bourbon notes fused with the richest of barley statements; not entirely unlike caramelized biscuits dunked in coffee; oh, and a bit of spice high note too.
Taste : There we go with that unique bitter-sweet overture where the oaks and barley appear joined at the hip; lovely soft oils and then a sharp jolt of blood orange citrus, which is removed by something more buttery and delicate.
Finish : Long, elegant with the most intricate of fades with the oaks showing various bourbon notes then buttery characteristics; there is a trace of dark sugar and cocoa to help it along its way;
*Silver Award Winner 2008 – Malt Maniacs*
*Bronze Award Winner 2008 – IWSC, London*
*Bronze Award Winner 2007 – ISC, London*

Nose : Heavy, thickly oaked and complex: some curious barley sugar notes here shrouded in soft smoke. Big, but seductively gentle, too..
Taste : The delivery, though controlled at first, is massive! Then more like confusion as that smoke on the nose turns into warming, full brown peat, but it far from gets its own way as a vague sherry trifle note (curious, seeing how there are no sherry butts involved) - the custard presumably is okay - vanilla hammers home that barley - fruitness to make for a bit of a free for all; but for extra food measure the flavours develop into a really intense chocolate fudge middle which absolutely resonates through the palate;
Finish : A slight struggle here as the mouthfeel gets a bit puffy with the dry peat and oak; enough molasses sweetness to see the malt through to a satisfying end, though. Above all the spices, rather than lying down and accepting their fate, rise up and usher this extraordinary whisky to its exit;
*This has to be one of the great whiskies found in the anywhere in the world. From distillation to maturation this is genius whisky - 97 points, Whisky Bible Awards 2010 - Jim Murray*

Nose : Unusually dry peat; not dissimilar to peak reek absorbed by an old leather arm chair, a hint of citrus too;
Taste : Despite the nose, the immediate sensation is one of being caressed by molasses sugar and then an increase of the peat notes. As they get more forceful, the experience becomes that little bit drier and spicier, though not without the molasses refusing to give way;
Finish : You can tell the quality of the distilate and the barrels it has been matured in by the crystalline depth to the finish. Everything is clear on the palate and the butterscotch vanillas wrap the phenols for a comfortable and clean finale;

Nose : Distinctly confident liquorice-bourbon notes with near perfect bitter-sweet balance; burnt honeycomb and toffee also abound;
Taste : Outstanding richness and sheen to the enormous barley-oak sweetness; again there is a big bourbony cut to the cloth with all that the liquorice and molasses sugar normally associates; but the barley adds an extra dimension;
Finish : Long, wonderfully layered oak offering variations of a sweet dry theme; a touch silky with some cream toffee at the finish;
*"About as relaxed and confident a malt as you'll find anywhere in the world. Proving that there really is a formulated hosue style." - 93.5 points, Whisky Bible Awards 2010 - Jim Murray*
